‘John Wick’ Prequel Show ‘The Continental’ to Premiere on Peacock in 2023

John Wick’s upcoming prequel series has already been packed with updates. The series “The Continental” will be a prequel to the franchise. Kevin Beggs, chairman of Lionsgate Television, revealed that the series will revolve around a young Winston in the 1970s.

Well, now the series will delve into the history and inner workings of the exclusive Continental Hotel, which serves as a haven for assassins in the John Wick universe.

He revealed that the plot of the project had been difficult to develop, with the studio receiving pitches from various creative teams.

According to additional reports, it will be a miniseries. The first season will contain three 90-minute episodes. There has recently been some development and changes.

Lionsgate Confirmed To Sell The Series Premiere Rights To Peacock

Recently, Lionsgate announced in August 2022 that it had sold premiere rights to Peacock after determining that the show was no longer a perfect match for Starz.

Kelly Campbell, President, Peacock, and Direct-to-Consumer stated, “The John Wick films have become a global phenomenon, is among the most watched titles on Peacock and we are thrilled and honored to partner with Lionsgate to extend this incredible franchise.

We understand the value of a global franchise and Val Boreland and the team knew that by bringing this special event series to Peacock and putting the full power of NBCUniversal behind it, the premiere of The Continental will be the streaming event of the year.”

Lionsgate Television Group Chair Kevin Beggs added, “John Wick has become part of the cultural zeitgeist with a massive, passionately engaged fan base around the world.”

‘The Continental’ Is Set To Premiere On 2023

Kevin Beggs continued to speak about their collaboration and revealed the anticipated release date of this upcoming series.

“We’re delighted to partner with Peacock to continue expanding the John Wick Universe.

This agreement reflects the collaboration of our Motion Picture Group, which has grown the franchise from the beginning and was excited by the opportunity to bring it to the next level, Jim Packer and his Worldwide Television Distribution team, which found the perfect home for The Continental, and the Lionsgate Television creative group, which created a brilliant and enduring property that is one of the most highly-anticipated streaming events of 2023.”

What’s ‘The Continental’ All About?

We did mention a little about the narrative of the series. But let’s be precise.

The series will be, “Told from the perspective of the hotel manager, a young Winston Scott [Colin Woodell, based on Ian McShane’s character in the films], is dragged through 1975 New York to face a past he thought he’d left behind.

In an attempt to seize control of the iconic hotel, which serves as a meeting point for the world’s most dangerous criminals, Winston charts a deadly course through the mysterious underworld of New York City.”

Kavin remarked, “What we’re exploring in The Continental is the young Winston and how it came to be that he and his team of confederates found their way into this hotel, which we have met for the first time in the movie franchise 40 years later.”
