After Henry Cavill departed from DCU, new plot details of the upcoming Superman reboot have been revealed. Cavill has confirmed his departure on his Instagram after discussing with James Gunn and his DC Studios co-chairman and co-CEO Peter Safran.
It is a clear indication that DCU is heading in a new direction with some major shakeups. But after Cavill’s removal from the Man of Steel 2 project, James Gunn confirmed a new Superman film plot is in development. But there will be no involvement of Henry Cavill.
Reports suggest that Gunn himself is writing the plot of the Superman reboot.
James Gunn on New Superman Movie
On his Twitter, James Gunn wrote on Wednesday: “Peter & I have a DC slate ready to go, which we couldn’t be more over-the-moon about; we’ll be able to share some exciting information about our first projects at the beginning of the new year.”
Gunn also added some details of the upcoming projects by prioritizing the Superman project. He added: “Among those on the slate is Superman. In the initial stages, our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill. But we just had a great meeting with Henry and we’re big fans and we talked about a number of exciting possibilities to work together in the future.”
New Superman Movie Plot
While replying to a fan, the Guardians of the Galaxy director confirmed this upcoming will not be an origin film. According to rumors, the plot will focus on the younger side of Kal-El before coming to live in Smallville. This will be more of Clark Kent as a reporter and will meet his love interest, Lois Lane, for the first time.
Snyder’s Man of Steel focused on Superman’s origin and slowly developed the character with other movies. But certain aspects are still not explored.
Gunn’s comments seem to put focus on those aspects, which many creators missed out on those. Some reports are suggesting that DC Studios are trying to put all the superheroes into Matt Reeves’s Batman universe. So, they can build an amazing superhero hero universe with a great opening like Pattinson’s Batman.
BatFleck’s Future and the Black Superman Project
Talking about Batman, Gunn also confirmed that he had a chat with Ben Affleck about directing a new film if any “right project” arrives. According to The Hollywood Reporter, reports are also claiming that J.J. Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates will be part of the upcoming Black Superman project.
Back in 2018, Warner Brothers wanted James Gunn to take over Superman. But Gunn chose the Suicide Squad over Superman. That became a major hit for the studios.
Gunn has experience with an alternate dark version of Superman which appeared in 2019’s Brightburn film. The film was not well appreciated, but the director has done a great job in The Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad.
Right now, many things are in the dark as James Gunn will reveal his all major plans at the beginning of next year. That will disclose where the DCU heading in the future.
