James Cameron Shares ‘Avatar 2’ Budget, Calls It ‘Worst Business Case In Movie History’

The much-awaited movie Avatar 2 is truly an expensive deal! Well, that’s what the legendary movie director feels! While sharing the movie’s budget, James Cameron called “Avatar: The Way Of Water” the “worst business case in movie history”. The director has also released the final trailer of the sequel to “Avatar”.

‘Avatar: The Way Of Water’, An Expensive Deal

Hear it from the horse’s mouth! Director James Cameron has finally shared the whopping budget for Avatar: The Way of Water, and revealed that the movie was so expensive to create that “it will have to threaten the record books just to break even”. In a recent interview,  James informed Disney and 20th Century Studios executives that the upcoming movie was “the worst business case in movie history”.

James revealed the movie’s budget just a few weeks before its scheduled release. Estimating the movie’s production budget at roughly $250 million, even though this figure remains blurry, Cameron stated that it was “very f—ing [expensive].” If we have to compare, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is, at present, remains the most expensive film with a budget of $422 million.

So what does this mean? In order to survive, the movie will have to make an actual profit, competing with box office hits like “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” or Marvel’s “Avengers: End Game” (the second highest-grossing film with $2.7 billion).

Not to mention, Cameron’s “Titanic” (the third highest-grossing film with $2.1 billion). This means any figure below $2 billion would put the team at a loss. Whether this is a marketing strategy or a bitter truth, Cameron has certainly hinted to everyone that one must cross their fingers for the success of this movie.

‘Avatar 2’ Final Trailer Is Here!

After a wait of 13 years, the sequel to Avatar is finally arriving on the big screens. The final trailer of this film has been released. The movie was shot simultaneously with Avatar 3 between 2017 to 2020. Cameron previously revealed that this movie took a long time as most of it was filmed underwater.

At the beginning of this month, Cameron released the first trailer of this movie, which features the Sully family embarking on a new adventure. The footage introduces fan-favourite characters Jake Sully and Neytiri, who now have four children together: Neteyam, Lo’ak, Tuktirey, and Kiri. Now new troubles await the family, who seek the help of other communities for their peaceful existence.

The trailer has some hard-hitting dialogues and particularly focuses on love and family. There are also thrilling action scenes and visually appealing underwater sequences. Now if you look at the astonishing budget, it seems like it would require breaking multiple box-office records to thrive. Avatar 2 is set for release on Friday (December 16).

Avatar became Cameroon’s highest-grossing film of all time, earning $2.5 billion, and fans have high hopes for its sequel. The original science fiction film started its developmental phase in 1994 when Cameroon wrote an 80-page treatment for the film.

As for the plot of Avatar 2, new parents Jake (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) flee Pandora due to RDA mining operations. On the other hand, the Sullys and the Na’vi seek an oceanic haven, which turns out to be quite the opposite of what they expected. What do you think about the budget for this movie? Will it do justice to the original? Well, let’s hope for the best.
