Netflix has come up with a new comedy-drama series named Wellmania. The Australian show premiered recently on the streaming platform and is being praised for its fresh concept of promoting health and well-being.
Wellmania revolves around a middle-aged food blogger, Liv Healy, who has to reevaluate her unhealthy lifestyle. The eight-episode first season dropped on Netflix on March 29, and binge-watchers have already started asking for more episodes. But is Wellmania renewed for season 2? Read on to find out.
Is Wellmania Renewed for Season 2?
Netflix has not announced the renewal of the show for a second season at the time of writing. However, fans need not worry as it is pretty early to comment on the fate of the show. The streaming platform usually takes a few weeks or months before confirming the continuation of a series.
A number of factors will be taken into consideration by Netflix before going ahead with the second season of Wellmania, including the viewership hours of the first season and the budget going into the production of the show.
The series has so far received favorable reviews and has also made it to the list of top 10 shows in a few countries, which is a positive sign for its renewal. If the show does get renewed in the upcoming weeks, the second season can be expected to arrive on Netflix by the summer of 2024.
Who will Star in Wellmania Season 2?
If season 2 does get green-lit, the main cast members are expected to reprise their roles. Wellmania stars Celeste Barber as Liv Healy, JJ Fong as Amy Kwan, Genevieve Mooy as Lorraine Healy, Lachlan Buchanan as Gaz Healy, Remy Hii as Dalbert Tan, and Alexander Hodge as Isaac Huang.
The cast also includes Simone Kessell as Helen King, Virginie Laverdure as Valerie Jones, Johnny Carr as Doug Henderson, Miranda Otto, Leah Vandenberg, and Aden Young. The show is co-created by Brigid Delaney and Benjamin Law, with production by Fremantle Australia.
What will Wellmania Season 2 be About?
Since the show has not been officially renewed yet, not much can be said about the storyline for the second season. However, it is known that the series is based on the novel Wellmania: Misadventures in the Search for Wellness by Delaney.
So the Netflix series will probably continue to explore more plot points from the book. The new season will also once again talk about the wellness industry in detail. Lead star Celeste Barber recently talked about the premise of the show.
She said, “She (Liv) treats her body like an amusement park, this character, and she’s at that stage in her life where you just f—ng can’t anymore. That’s why it’s relatable: whether you like it or not, you have to reassess.”
The synopsis for the series reads, “When human tornado Liv (Barber) has a major health crisis, she is forced to rethink her ‘live fast die young’ attitude. Throwing herself body-first into a wellness journey, she tries everything from the benign to the bizarre in an attempt to get well quick, and reclaim her old life.”
