Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson starer The Man from Toronto was released recently on Netflix. Since the time the action-comedy has dropped on the streaming platform, speculations are rife about its sequel. Read on to know what we know so far about the sequel.
Will The Man from Toronto Return with a Sequel?
As of now, there has been no confirmation about the sequel. Neither Netflix nor the producers have announced the future of the film yet. But worry not! Since the film has released on 24th June this year, it will be too early to confirm or deny the possibility of a sequel.
Netflix will be constantly keeping an eye on the streaming numbers of the film, to see if the film is performing well enough to make a profitable sequel. Currently, the film is trending in the Top 10 films in a number of regions, which can be seen as a positive sign.
When the director of the film, Patrick Hughes was asked if he was willing to work on the film’s sequel or spin-offs, he replied, “Oh, absolutely I just had so much fun working with Kevin and Woody and the cast. It was a lot of laughs when the camera wasn’t rolling and I certainly think it lends itself to further investigation about the relationship between these two.”
The Australian filmmaker has directed some sequels in the past too, including The Expendables 3, The Hitman’s Bodyguard, and Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard.
The characters in the film also had the potential to be explored further with a new story. If the sequel does get confirmed, we can expect an announcement from Netflix as early as July 2022.
The Man from Toronto is Based on Mistaken Identity
The Man from Toronto stars Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson in lead roles, along with Kaley Cuoco, Jasmine Mathews, Lela Loren, Pierson Fodé, Jencarlos Canela, and Ellen Barkin in pivotal roles.
The film’s plot revolves around the case of mistaken identity. Teddy (Kevin Hart) is a failed internet athletic instructor from New York who is mistaken for an assassin known as ‘The Man from Toronto’ (Woody Harrelson) when both end up in the same Airbnb. The chaos that happens next forms the story of the film.
The production of the film started in January 2020. Jason Statham was originally cast in the role of ‘The Man from Toronto’, but left the film before the shooting began due to creative differences with the producers. The role eventually went to Harrelson.
The film’s music has been composed by Ramin Djawadi, known for his works in Iron Man and Game of Thrones.
A Theatrical Release of the Film was Planned Initially
The film was originally planned to be released in theatres by Sony Pictures in November 2020. However, after it got delayed multiple times due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Sony signed a deal with Netflix to exclusively stream the film.
The film dropped last Friday on Netflix and received mostly negative reviews from critics.
