What is the Hulu series ‘Saint X’ all about?
In the United States, the thriller series Saint X made its way to the streaming service Hulu on April 26, 2023, Wednesday. The series which is set in different timelines follows the story of a girl named Alison Thomas who disappears and passes away while on a family vacation in the 1990s.
Nearly 2 decades after the tragic incident, her sister Claire who was only seven years old at the time of the incident is still looking for answers as the real identity of Alison’s killer has not been revealed. Claire starts her investigation with Clive Richardson, who was the prime suspect at the time of Alison’s death and he was surrounded by sinister accusations all his life.
Is Hulu’s new series ‘Saint X’ based on a true story?
The answer to the above question is a big no. Hulu’s new series Saint X is not based on a true story. However, it is an adaptation of a mystery novel penned by author Alexis Schaitkin which means the story of Alison Thomas’ and her disappearance are completely fictional.
The book which was published in the year 2020, is less about solving the mystery of Alison Thomas’ death and more about Claire learning that she may never find the answers she is seeking. After her investigation, she learns that Clive wasn’t Alison’s killer which takes her back to square one.
During an interview with the American Booksellers Association in 2020, author Alexis Schaitkin said, “The first chapter sets up the mystery of Alison Thomas’ death, but I hope the reader will quickly figure out that the novel is ultimately less interested in the answer to that mystery than in its fallout for all of these characters.”
‘Saint X’ shares a few similarities with a real-life case
Yeah, you read that right. The story of Alison Thomas is entirely fictional, although it has a few similarities to the real-life case of Natalee Holloway. In May 2005, the high school senior from Alabama disappeared during a class trip to Aruba in the Caribbean.
At the time of her disappearance, Holloway was 18 years old which is the same as Saint X’s Alison. Another similarity between the two cases is that both of them were never solved. Thomas’ body is found in the series however Natalee’s remains have never been recovered. In 2012, Natalee was officially declared dead by an Alabama judge.
