During her interview with Allure magazine, the Rich Girl crooner talked about Japanese culture and heritage and stated that she has been fascinated with Japanese traditions for years.
Gwen recalled her dad Dennis used to travel to Japan for his job and he would tell her stories of “performers cosplaying as Elvis and stylish women with colorful hair.”
The musician told the media outlet, “That was my Japanese influence and was a culture that was so rich with tradition yet so futuristic [with] so much attention to art and detail and discipline. It was fascinating to me.”
Stefani went on to say that she paid a visit to the Harajuku district as an adult and felt right at home. She further added, “I said, ‘My God, I’m Japanese and I didn’t know it. I am, you know.’”

Gwen Stefani has Italian-American and Irish-American heritage. The musician was born to father Dennis Stefani and mother Patti Stefani in Fullerton, California on October 3, 1969.
Back in the day, Stefani’s mom Patti was an accountant by profession, meanwhile her dad Dennis spent his career split between Japan and the US working as an executive at Yamaha.
