Beetlejuice was released in 1988 and has made a significant effect since then. It’s 2022 and spectators are still waiting for the sequel. So, there have been a few updates about a sequel, which we will look into.
When the deceased couple Adam and Barbara are unable to scare away a family who has relocated into their old home in the original movie, they seek the help of bio-exorcist Betelgeuse.
Beetlejuice 2 has been in talks since the original movie’s release and success. But now we’ll see if there will actually be a sequel and what is happening.
Is Beetlejuice 2 Happening?
One direct question is whether or not “Beetlejuice 2” will happen. And it’s mostly happening!
A sequel was announced in February 2022, this time co-produced by Plan B Entertainment and Warner Bros., with Keaton and Ryder reprising their roles. It was also revealed that principal photography will begin the following year.
The movie is still in its early stages, according to reports. In 2016, Tom Burton stated, “It’s something that I really would like to do in the right circumstances, but it’s one of those films where it has to be right. It’s not a kind of a movie that cries out [for a sequel], it’s not the Beetlejuice trilogy.
So it’s something that if the elements are right—because I do love the character and Michael’s amazing as that character, so yeah we’ll see. But there’s nothing concrete yet.”
The Director Teased About Working On Ideas For The Sequel
Recently, Tim Burton teased an outlet about working on some ideas regarding the sequel. And also mentioned it’s in the early days.
“I only know if I’m making a film when I’m actually on the set shooting. I try to go back to the root of everything. It springs from a seed and then it grows, rather than out of these statements. I am working on ideas and things but it’s all very early days. We’ll set how it goes. How’s that for a none answer?”
Danny Elfman said in 2019, “The last… a year ago, I saw Michael Keaton, and he mentioned ‘So, we’re doing Beetlejuice 2?’, and I said ‘Well, you’d know more than I do.’ And I’ve heard nothing about it since.”
Adding, “Projects will be in development for quite a long time. So I think it is something that has been in development for a few years, but I don’t know where it is in that process. I’m always the last one to hear, believe me.
Often, I’ll hear about whatever movie Tim is doing, it is kinda funny because he’ll call me and he’ll say ‘Danny, I’m doing such and such a film, would you like to come on board?’, and I’ll already have read about it in Variety two weeks earlier. So I’m not the first one to hear about things, let me put it that way.”
Geena Davis Would Like To ‘Revisit’
Greena Davis expressed her wish to return to the world. Davis said she “would of course like to revisit.”
And then added, “I want to play every character I’ve ever played again. I have a feeling that ghosts don’t age. How would they explain that they’re older?”
Michael Keaton also talked about happily returning to do Beetlejuice 2.
“I just think it’s like a little piece of art that you better get right if you ever do it again. Otherwise, you just kind of don’t touch it.”
In another interview long back he remarked, “I always said that it’s the one thing I’d like to do again if I ever did anything again. But it kind of required Tim to be involved in some way or another. Now it looks like he is involved.
And without giving too much away, we’ve talked to each other and emailed each other, and if he’s in, it’s going to be hard not to be in.”
Knowing it’s in the early stages clearly means that it will take time before spectators can watch. But we will keep you posted on more happenings regarding a sequel in the coming days.
