Is Alaska Daily Renewed for Season 2 on ABC?

The first season of Alaska Daily is coming to an end on ABC after airing 11 entertaining episodes. The season finale, titled Most Reckless Thing I’ve Ever Done (FKA News Is What People Don’t Want You to Know), is set to air on March 30.

The drama series follows a journalist who moves from New York to Alaska and starts reporting on the missing and murdered Indigenous women crisis in the state. Fans of the show are a bit disappointed with the first season ending and are already anticipating another season. But has Alaska Daily been renewed for season 2? Read on to find out.

Alaska Daily Season 2 Renewal Status

The renewal status for Alaska Daily has not been revealed by ABC yet. The show has neither been renewed nor canceled as of now. The network will probably take a few days or weeks to analyze the performance of the show and decide if it wants to go ahead with more seasons. So we will have to wait for an official confirmation from ABC.

Meanwhile, Alaska Daily has consistently garnered decent ratings. The show averaged over 5 million total viewers in the first six episodes. The series met with critical acclaim as well, and lead star Hilary Swank was nominated for Best Actress in a Television Series – Drama at the Golden Globes this year.

The positive response should help the show get a second season; however, the final call lies with ABC. If another installment does get green-lit in the upcoming weeks, we can expect the show to return to the screens by the end of this year.

Alaska Daily Storyline

The intense storyline of the show makes up for an entertaining watch, along with a social message. The official synopsis of the series by ABC reads, “Eileen is a journalist from New York who moves to Alaska for a clean start and who looks for redemption both personally and professionally after joining a daily metro newspaper in Anchorage.”

“In the City of Anchorage, she works with another colleague at the newspaper, Roz Friendly, to complete and release reports on the missing and murdered Indigenous women crisis in the state of Alaska,” it reads further.

Alaska Daily Cast and Crew

The show stars Hilary Swank as Eileen Fitzgerald, Jeff Perry as Stanley Kornik, Grace Dove as Roz Friendly, Meredith Holzman as Claire Muncy, Matt Malloy as Bob Young, Ami Park as Yuna Park, Pablo Castelblanco as Gabriel Tovar, Craig Frank as Austin Teague, Irene Bedard as Sylvie Nanmac, Phillip Lewitski as Miles, and Joe Tippett as Jamie.

Talking about what urged her to take up the project, Swank revealed in an interview, “This, for me, was first and foremost about the fact that the story dealt with these missing and murdered Indigenous women. It is of the utmost importance and it’s a story that matters. I’d like to see it get out there and get more eyes on it and get people talking about it.”
