On Sunday night, Ryan Seacrest crowned Iam Tongi as the winner of American Idol season 21. Soon after, he celebrated his victory by singing Don’t Let Go as his family members, judges, and audience members cheered him up.
After winning season 21 of the singing competition American Idol, Tongi even took to his Instagram page to thank his fans for all their love and support during his time on the show.
“Thank you everyone for voting! Love all you guys! Thank you so much, yessah blessa never stressa #idol #idolwinner” he wrote alongside a good picture of himself with all the three judges and host.
What did judges have to say about Iam Tongi?
At one point in time, during the show, Tongi made the judges emotional when he dedicated the song “Monsters” to his father, who died a couple of before his audition.
At that time, Judge Lionel Richie said, “I was not worried about whether you were going to make it through the song, I was worried about whether we were going to make it through the song. Your daddy is very proud.” Katy Perry chimed in, “What a fantastic song to pick. You’re making these grown men cry.”
Luke Bryan further added, “I cannot handle your heart breaking about your dad because my nephew lost his dad and he came to live with me and just seeing you missing your dad sucks. Gosh man, you’ve got a great voice. You did everything perfectly and I love you and want to see you have fun.”
While having a chat with People magazine earlier this month, Katy Perry mentioned how the competition was fierce but Tongi had something special. She said, “I think that the top three is strong, I think Megan Danielle has earned her right to be there and she’s got a new beautiful confidence.”
The One That Got Away singer went on to say, “The sound in the room when Iam comes on is undeniable. He’s an undeniable character. He’s just kind of got this incredible magic. You almost can’t explain it. It’s an it factor. It’s like you’re born to do this, and it’s undeniable.”
