Oppenheimer is being touted as one of the biggest movie events of the year. The film, based on the life and work of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the inventor of the atomic bomb, is expected to take the box office by storm when it releases on July 21st.
The film boasts a stellar ensemble cast including Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, and Emily Blunt. While viewers are awaiting the release of the film with bated breath, others are wondering if and when the film will be available to stream online. Read on to find out.
How to Watch Oppenheimer Online?
Oppenheimer is being released exclusively in cinemas on July 21st, and the film would not be available for streaming right away. So the audience would have to wait a little before they get to watch the movie online.
After Oppenheimer finishes its theatrical run, it will be made available on Peacock. Universal Pictures, the distributors of the film, has signed a deal with Peacock to stream their films on the platform around four months after their theatrical release.
If the same timeline is followed, Oppenheimer will be available to stream on Peacock in November this year. The film is also expected to be released for rentals and premium video on demand (PVOD). The probable release date for the same is September 2023, considering a 45-day theatrical run window.
Oppenheimer is Getting Released in Multiple Formats
Apart from the standard format, Oppenheimer is also releasing in IMAX format in theatres. It is the first movie to be shot on black and white IMAX photographic film. The Christopher Nolan directorial is also getting launched in 35 mm format apart from the standard 70 mm.
In his interviews, Nolan has urged the audiences to enjoy his feature in IMAX. “The sharpness, clarity, and depth of the image is unparalleled. The headline, for me, is by shooting on IMAX 70mm film, you’re really letting the screen disappear. You’re getting a feeling of 3D without the glasses,” said the director.
“You rarely get the chance to really talk to moviegoers directly about why you love a particular format and why if they can find an IMAX screen to see the film on that’s great. We put a lot of effort into shooting the film in a way that we can get it out on these large format screens,” he added.
