Hocus Pocus 2 Filming Locations Explored
The sequel has been in talks for a long time. Sets for Hocus Pocus 2 were confirmed to be constructed in September 2021 at Chase Farms in Lincoln, Rhode Island, and Washington Square in Newport, Rhode Island.
However, filming finally took place in Rhode Island from October 2021 to January 2022. The working title for the production was ‘Black Flame.’
Director Anne Fletcher talked about the production. “Now more than ever, people need to laugh. We should be laughing every day, and there is so much fun to be had with these three unbelievable women playing delicious characters from such a beloved film.
I am so grateful to be able to play a part in bringing these witches back to life, and to be working with my friends at Disney again makes it all the more special.
This is a movie for everyone, from the fans who grew up with the first film to the next generation of viewers, and I can’t wait to get started in the beautiful state of Rhode Island.” Let’s explore the locations in depth.
Atwells Avenue, Providence, Rhode Island
The historic Federal Hill neighborhood of Providence encompasses Atwells Avenue and the surrounding streets. The film was shot in this location. Atwells Avenue was converted into a spooky destination. Fictional street names like “Gibbet Lane” had been set up in its place.
It was also reported that a large crowd had gathered at the location to see the cast members. A market was transformed into a Halloween village inspired by Salem.
Governor Daniel J. McKee said, “On behalf of Rhode Island, I am proud and honored that again our beautiful state, with its unique scenery, landscapes, and local talent, will be the backdrop for a major motion picture. Film and TV productions such as Hocus Pocus 2 have positive impacts on our businesses and move our economy in the right direction.”
La Salle Academy, Providence, Rhode Island
La Salle Academy is a Roman Catholic private college preparatory school. According to reports, the school was used for both indoor and outdoor scenes. The Christian Brothers established the school in 1871.
The main building is the oldest and largest educational building on school grounds, having been devoted in 1925 when the Academy relocated from downtown Providence to its current location in the Elmhurst neighborhood.
Do you remember the scene with Becca, Cassie, and Izzy? Well, now you know where it was filmed. Executive Director of the Rhode Island Film & TV Office Steven Feinberg stated their excitement about the production.
“We are very excited to welcome Disney and their talented team to the Ocean State to create the next chapter of the popular and highly anticipated sequel, Hocus Pocus 2.
Rhode Island is fortunate because we have superb partners in both the public and private sectors, and we enjoy working together to build a positive environment for the creative economy to shine.
We are particularly grateful to Walt Disney Productions for providing good-paying jobs for many local artists and hard-working technicians from across Rhode Island.
Collaboration is key to the art of cinema and we look forward to helping the Hocus Pocus 2 team produce movie magic here in the Ocean State!”
Chase Farm, Lincoln, Rhode Island
Hocus Pocus 2 also had a set in Lincoln. The place is used for a variety of activities, including summer concerts, sledding, hiking, and other special events. Chase Farm was used to build a massive replica of Salem.
Cranston Street Armory
The film was shot specifically at the Historic Cranston Street Armory. It cost $650,000.00 to build in 1907. The Rhode Island National Guard dominated the building from its inception until 1996. Parts of the structure have since been used as movie studios.
It is a significant historical construction and neighborhood icon, with distinctive yellow bricks, crenelated turrets, and decorative stonework. Absolutely makes the place iconic.
Carpenter Cemetery, East Providence
Hocus Pocus 2’s night scenes were shot in Carpenter Cemetery. The Carpenter, Lakeside, and Springvale Cemeteries are ancient cemeteries in East Providence, Rhode Island, situated on Newman and Pawtucket Avenues.
The three cemeteries are located in a triangular area bounded to the east and south by Newman and Pawtucket Avenues, and to the west by railroad tracks.
Washington Square, Newport
