But the one thing that perhaps garners more attention than celebrity friendships is celebrity feuds. One such feud or fallout that has recently come to people’s attention is between John Legend and Kanye West.
Kanye West or ‘Ye’ ruffled feathers when he publicly associated with and offered support to the former president Donald Trump. Kanye had officially met with Donald Trump in the Oval Office and wore his MAGA hat, which did not set well with many of his friends including Legend and his wife Chrissy Teigen, who were publicly critical of Trump’s administration.
What Happened Between John Legend and Kanye West?
In a recent interview, John Legend revealed that he and Kanye are not as good friends as they used to be. He said that his refusal to support Kanye West’s run for the presidency was the final nail in their friendship.
“He was upset that I didn’t support his run for presidency of the United States of America — for understandable reasons,” he said. Legend added that “we really haven’t been close since then.” The friendship was already strained by their disagreement over Kanye supporting Trump.
John Legend’s Comments About Kanye
Although their friendship might have suffered due to their respective political beliefs, John Legend had nothing bad to say about Kanye. He went on to say that Kanye is genuine with his opinions and that he is also upfront.
He went on to add that Kanye is who he is and that he does not change himself for the world, whether for good or bad. Talking about Kanye’s mental health struggles, he said “I think he’s been very open with who he is and his struggles with mental health… he’s very real, honestly. So I think there’s not a lot about him that people don’t get”.
John Legend’s Political Ambitions
In the interview, Legend also touched on the subject of him running for office, as he is active on social media about the same. He said that “I do not want to run for office. I definitely don’t want to do it now, and I don’t envision myself wanting to do it in the future”. He chose to support Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in the 2020 elections.
He believes that he will try to contribute to making change through music and charity. He added that “I feel like I’m able to make a big impact through the work that I’m doing, and I like the way that I’m doing it.”
John Legend and Chrissy Teigen are expecting their third child together soon. The couple went through a miscarriage a couple of years ago. They announced the good news on Wednesday. Their older daughter Luna is 6 years old whereas the son Miles is 4 years old.
John Legend is not the only person whose relationship with Kanye got strained over the years. Kanye’s friendship with Jay-Z and Drake have also worsened over the years.
