After a long wait of six years, the new installment of Guardians of the Galaxy is finally here. The James Gunn directorial is the final film in the successful franchise and serves as the 32nd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Being a superhero flick with a premise set in other worlds, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is high on special effects and features exotic visuals. Audiences are now wondering where was the film shot. Read on to find out.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Filming Locations
The film was mostly shot in Georgia and in parts of England. The filming was initially planned to begin in February 2019 but was delayed after the director was fired. The shooting eventually commenced in November 2021 and was wrapped up by May 2022. Here are all the locations where Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was shot.
Atlanta, Georgia
Most of the sequences of the film were shot in Atlanta, the capital and most populous city of Georgia. The filming primarily took place at Trilith Studios, at Sandy Creek Road in Fayetteville, where the production crew extensively used green screens to add special effects and visuals to the scenes.
]Trilith Studios feature a 1000-acre space with 24 sound stages and multiple offices, back lots, and workshops. The team also constructed a four-story set to film the scenes based on the Guardians’ new ship, the Bowie.
The cast and crew were also spotted shooting at several other places around Atlanta, including the Atlanta Country Club in Marietta, the Believe Music Hall, and Clayton County. Some scenes featuring Christmas decorations were lensed in night shoots in the Country Club with the help of the local police.
Atlanta, known for its cultural and commercial significance, has served as a filming location for a number of superhero films and television series earlier as well, including Marvel’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, Captain America: Civil War, Ms. Marvel, and The Falcon and the Winter Solider and DC’s Black Adam, Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Suicide Squad.
Shows like Ozark, The Vampire Diaries, Stranger Things, The Walking Dead, Teen Wolf and films like Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, The Fate of the Furious, The Haunting of Hill House, Jurassic World: Dominion, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 and Baby Driver have also been filmed in Atlanta.
London, England
After wrapping the shoot in Atlanta, the production team shifted to London to record some additional scenes for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The filming took place mostly outdoors, at several famous sites, including Big Ben, London Bridge, Tower of London, Southbank Centre, and Somerset House.
A number of Hollywood productions have previously been shot in London, including Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, Fast X, 26. The Batman, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, The Dark Knight, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, No Time to Die, Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
