At the moment, Greta Gerwig’s neon-coated fantasy comedy Barbie is dominating the box office. The movie is winning the hearts of the fans and up until now, it has made a remarkable $155 million at the North American box office.
On the other hand, when we talk about Christopher Nolan’s R-rated historical drama Oppenheimer, it has raked in a whopping $80.5 million in its opening weekend. Currently, the craze of “Barbenheimer” is insane.
While having a chat with Variety, David A. Gross, who runs the movie consulting firm Franchise Entertainment Research, talked about both movies. He said, “This is an unequivocally great weekend for moviegoing.” He went on to say, “‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’ are complementing each other at the box office, not taking audience from each other.”
Michael O’Leary, president and CEO of the National Association of Theatre Owners, the industry’s trade organization, added, “Studios gave audiences two uniquely different, smart and original stories that were meant for the big screen. People recognized that something special was happening, and they wanted to be a part of it.”
