Disney’s CEO, Bog Iger, confirmed that the third movie in the Frozen franchise is developing during the company’s Q1 earnings call.
As part of the announcement of this film, there were other films, such as Toy Story 5 and Zootopia 2. In addition, Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell will likely be back on the show for the upcoming season, although no details have been disclosed yet.
A New Chapter In The Frozen Saga Has Begun
Several Disney franchises have been very successful over the years, and they are returning to them once again. A sequel to the Frozen franchise, a sequel to Toy Story, and Zootopia are all in the works at Disney Pictures. Bob Iger confirmed this at the D23 Expo. Unfortunately, toy Story has been the subject of very few hints that the franchise may continue. As a result, the plot of Woody and Buzz Lightyear was completed with the release of Toy Story 4.
Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, and Josh Gad have all hinted at the possibility of Frozen 3 at various points but have not explicitly indicated the release date. Last year, a TV series based on Zootopia was released, bringing the franchise to the big screen.
Bob Iger revealed, “Today, I’m so pleased to announce that we have sequels from our animation studios to some of our most popular franchises, Toy Story, Frozen, and Zootopia. We’ll have more to share about these productions soon, but this is a great example of how we’re leaning into our unrivaled brands and franchises.”
It Has Been Difficult For Disney’s Original Movies To Make A Splash In Recent Years
There has been a considerable gap between Disney’s original movies, such as Strange Worlds, and others, like Encanto, which have become instant classics and are destined to be spawning their franchises in the future, even though Disney’s original movies have struggled at the box office in the past couple of years.
The fact remains, however, that if there is one thing that guarantees a big turnout at the box office, it is a sequel to a popular IP because there is nothing better than having a sequel to a big blockbuster.
In the Q1 earnings call conducted by Bob Iger, he informed shareholders that the Walt Disney Company is in an excellent financial position and that they have some upcoming plans to ensure that the Disney dream will dominate the big and small screen for years to come.
Earlier this week, Disney revealed that it would be making animated films as a part of a massive cost-cutting exercise that would result in 7000 jobs being cut at the company due to the announcement.
How Soon Can We Expect The Third Sequel Of Frozen?
As far as we know, there is no estimated release date for Frozen 3, which is bad news for Disney fans. After Frozen, there were six years until Frozen II, so even if Frozen three were to become a thing, fans might have to wait until 2025 until Anna and Elsa return to our screens again.
Into the Unknown, the excellent documentary series on the making of Frozen II, goes into great detail about how much detail is involved in creating an animated film, so, understandably, there would be such an inconsistency.
There is still yet to be a release date for the meta Disney movie Wish, but director duo Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck have been busy with other projects. The likelihood is that we may need to wait until after the film Wish’s release before we can see a third film from the Frozen series.
According to all reports, Disney’s CEO Bob Iger said he would provide more information on Frozen III and the other new animated films shortly, adding that Disney is taking advantage of the popular properties they already own to expand their business.
