Fox Cancels “Call Me Kat” After Season 3 Amid Weak Audience Response

Fox has canceled “Call Me Kat” after three seasons. The American sitcom, starring Mayim Bialik in the lead role, is based on the British sitcom Miranda by Miranda Hart. The show turned out to be a high-profile get for Fox back in 2019, but during Season 3, the audience response was not as huge as expected.

Call Me Kat, Fox’s highly successful comedy show, which ran for three Seasons has finally wrapped up amid poor audience response. A Fox spokesperson said in a statement, “We are very proud of ‘Call Me Kat.’ But, unfortunately, the audience response to it was not as strong as we had hoped,

The spokesperson continued, “We are thankful for our partnership with Warner Bros. Television, That’s Wonderful Productions, Sad Clown Productions, BBC Studios, Mayim Bialik, Jim Parsons, and the entire cast and crew for their work and dedication to ‘Call Me Kat.’”

The series premiered on Fox as a midseason entry on Jan 3, 2021, before the channel decided to shift the show to Thursday for the remainder of its run. The first season started well, but ratings quickly dropped by the end of the third season. In the series, Bialik plays the role of a woman who leaves her job as a college professor to open a cat cafe

Call Me Kat Was More Gimmick Than Sitcom

Call Met Kat’s first season may have done well according to Fox, but on Rotten Tomatoes, the show held an approval rating of 27% based on 15 critic reviews. Many called it “more gimmick than sitcom”, burying the charming Mayim Bialik in a grave of toothless jokes and a shallow cast.

But again, the series was nominated for Outstanding Cinematography For A Multi-Camera Series at the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards, and Outstanding Multi-Camera Picture Editing for a Comedy Series at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards.

Alongside Bialik, the series also includes stars like Cheyenne Jackson, Swoosie Kurtz, Kyla Pratt, and Julian Grant. Leslie Jordan, who was known for his role as Beverley Leslie on Will & Grace, also starred in the series until his death in October 2022. The Season 3 finale, “Call Me a Donut Wall,” aired on May 4, 2023.
