Derry Girls Season 3 – Renewed?

Nicola Coughlan revealed that filming for Derry Girl Season 3 would begin this year in a tweet on February 20, 2021.

She also remarked on Twitter, “Can confirm Series 3 of Derry Girls is filming this year and I cannae bloody wait.” Further Adding, “Covid has pushed back filming several times which has been so shite, but honestly the story-lines in this series are the best we’ve ever done so I can’t tell you how worth it the wait will have been.”

The show has been renewed, so that’s wonderful. Tara Lynne O’Neill (Mary Quinn) also confirmed that production will take place in 2021. And that the series will premiere in early 2022 in a conversation with The Irish Mirror.

Louisa Harland, who plays Orla McCool, told JOE in early August that the new season of Derry Girl had not yet begun filming. “It’s not going. But it will be going! I’m not currently Orla McCool, but I will be very, very soon, and hopefully [the third season] will be out soon,” Harland stated.”

“Yeah, we haven’t actually had any scripts, but we’ve heard little nuggets. And I’m laughing even just thinking about them, but they’re good at not giving us the scripts because we get too excited and stuff.” Though, hopefully, it will begin filming soon.

It will be called ‘Derry Old Ones!’ No, we’re gonna do it this year, so it will be out early next year. We’re tied in for the filming date, we’re shooting this year.”

“I love writing this show and I’m so thrilled to be able to continue the Derry Girls story, thank you Channel 4, Erin and the eejits live to fight another day!” said Lisa McGee, the showrunner and creator, in response to the renewal.

‘Derry Girls’ Getting A Movie?

Another thing to keep in mind is that the show is currently in progress for a movie version probably. Lisa McGee, the showrunner and creator of Derry Girls, revealed. “I don’t want to write them beyond 18. It’s about that magic time before you’re officially an adult.”

McGee then hinted at what might happen in the show’s final season. “They’re going to be forced to grow up a bit this series [but] they’re still eejits, they still get into a lot of trouble, and embarrass themselves and do all those things you’d expect the Derry Girls to do, but they do have to face some big things this time.”
