DC’s Stargirl to End with Season 3 on The CW

Stargirl is finishing its run soon. The DC series on The CW will come to an end after its third and ongoing season concludes with a finale on December 7. The speculations around the show going off-air had been doing the rounds for quite some time, and now the creators have officially confirmed the news.

The series has become the latest entrant to the long list of scripted shows that have been pulled from The CW following the network’s takeover by Nexstar. Continue reading to know more about the development.

DC’s Stargirl to End with Season 3

Announcing the news, series creator Geoff Johns released a statement on Monday, revealing that they had an indication that the show might get canceled after the third season, so they wrote the conclusion accordingly.

“Stargirl has always held a special place in my heart for many reasons. With all the brewing changes at the network, we were aware this was possibly the last season, so we wrote with that in mind and have delivered what I believe to be the best season of Stargirl yet, with complete creative closure,” Johns said in the statement.

He added, “The cast and crew are extraordinary, and I’d like to thank them for helping me bring this series to life. Brec embodied Courtney in every way possible — with grace, strength and humor — exceeding my wildest expectations.”

“I am grateful to WBTV and The CW for giving us a home to tell this story and to honor my beloved late sister, and I’m beyond thankful to the press and fans who have always championed us for three amazing seasons. Most series never get this far. We couldn’t be more proud of our show and the fan community it’s built!” Johns concluded.

Show’s Lead Brec Bassinger Reacts

Brec Bassinger, who plays the titular role of Stargirl, has reacted to the show going off-air. “Getting to play Stargirl and be a part of the DC Universe has been the greatest honor, and I am so grateful for every moment of it,” Bassinger said.

“I would like to thank our fearless leader Geoff Johns, along with WBTV, The CW, the cast and crew of Stargirl, and of course, the fans. Thank you. This show will forever live in my heart,” she added.

Stargirl originally premiered on the streaming platform DC Universe in 2020, with a linear run on The CW. Following the streaming platform’s termination, the show permanently moved to The CW with its second season. In May 2021, the network renewed the series for a third season.

Several Shows have Come to an End on The CW

Following the network’s acquisition by Nexstar, which was completed last month, a number of original shows have been pulled down from The CW. Stargirl has become the fourth show to have a proper ending in the broadcast season 2022-23, after Nancy Drew, The Flash and Riverdale.

Other shows on the network that have been canceled this year include Batwoman, Charmed, Dynasty, In the Dark, Roswell, Legends of Tomorrow, Legacies, and New Mexico

Stargirl Season 3 currently airs on The CW on Wednesdays and will go on till December 7. Stay tuned for more news and updates.
