The legacy of Rocky Balboa continues! MGM has launched the first official trailer of Creed III, the next installment in the sports drama franchise that stars Michael B. Jordan in the titular role. The film will feature Adonis Creed taking on his rival, Damian Anderson, in the boxing ring.
Creed III marks the first film in the Rocky film series, where Sylvester Stallone will not be making an appearance. The actor, however, is associated with the film as a producer under his banner, Balboa Productions. Read on to watch the trailer and know the release date of the film.
Creed III Trailer Teases the Rivalry Between Creed and Anderson
The trailer pits Adonis Creed against Damian Anderson. Creed apparently knew Anderson while growing up, while the latter had been recently released from jail. The two appear to be friends at first, but things turn sour soon, resulting in a showdown between the friends-turned-foes.
The trailer also gives a glimpse of the relationship between Adonis and Bianca, while Anderson tries to ruin the bond. The film is set to hit the theatres on March 3, 2023. Watch the gripping trailer below.
Fans have already given the trailer a thumbs up, with one writing, “Can’t wait for this movie. This entire franchise has received countless accolades, and I have great reverence for it as well. The bad guy for this movie looks pretty formidable too,” and another commenting, “Finally, a storyline of his own. Out of the shadows of everybody else. Can’t wait for this one!”
Michael B. Jordan has Directed the Film
Apart from starring as the lead, Jordan is also donning the director’s hat, making his feature film directorial debut. Talking about how he wanted to take the film in a new direction post exit of Stallone, he said, “I think that Sly let it be known that he wasn’t coming back for this one but I think, you know, his essence and his spirit… there’s always going to be a little bit of Rocky within Adonis.”
“But this is a ‘Creed’ franchise, and we really want to build this story and this world around [Adonis] moving forward. So, it’s always respect and always a shit-ton of love for what [Stallone] built, but we really want to push and navigate Adonis forward and the family that he created,” the actor-turned-director added.
Many Stars are Reprising their Roles in Creed III
Along with Jordan, who stars as Adonis Creed, the film will feature Tessa Thompson as Bianca Taylor, Jonathan Majors as Damian Anderson, Phylicia Rashad as Mary Anne Creed, Wood Harris as Tony Little Duke Evers and Florian Munteanu as Viktor Drago. Tony Bellew will also be repairing his role as Ricky Conlan.
Other cast members include Selenis Leyva, Thaddeus J. Mixson, Canelo Álvarez, Spence Moore II and Mila Davis-Kent. The film has been written by Zach Baylin, known for King Richard, and is based on a story by Ryan Coogler, who directed the first Creed film.
