Cleveland’s Iconic ‘A Christmas Story’ House Goes Up For Sale

This is an excellent opportunity if you are interested in owning a piece of cinema history right now.

A Christmas Story features a famous house that appears in the movie of the same name, which you can now bid on for sale in Cleveland if you are interested in buying it.

“A Christmas Story” Fans Can Own The Fictional Boyhood Home

A Christmas Story fans have a golden chance to own the fictional boyhood home of Ralphie Parker, which is now being sold along with a museum dedicated to the iconic movie and a whole museum devoted to the characters in the film.

Located at 3159 W 11th Street in Cleveland, Ohio, this historic and century-old building has been a tourist attraction in recent years. It is currently on the market for sale, along with over a dozen other buildings on the entire campus that spans 1.3 acres in size.

Over 75,000 people visit the Christmas Story House and Museum every year, making it known collectively as “A Christmas Story House & Museum.”

Originally Built In 1895, The Main House Is Still Standing Today

The main house of the property was built in 1895. A century and a half later, director Bob Clark, who conceived of the idea of setting “A Christmas Story” in the mid-19th century, began looking for a suitable location and visited nearly two dozen cities in search of it, according to the Cleveland Historical website, which has been developed by Cleveland State University’s Center for Public History + Digital Humanities.

After much consideration, it was decided that Higbee’s in downtown Cleveland and the Victorian home on 11th Street would serve as the ideal locations for shooting in 1983. Ralphie’s childhood home was depicted on the exterior and interior of the house, including the opening of the leg lamp, as well as some interior scenes.

Approximately 21 years after the film’s release, entrepreneur Brian Jones, a fan and entrepreneur, purchased the house on eBay for $150,000, according to Cleveland Historical. His down payment was made from the revenue he received from his business, The Red Rider Leg Lamp Company.

In November 2006, Jones began offering public tours of the structure, which had undergone extensive renovations to make it a single-family dwelling and a “near-perfect replica of the movie set.”

There Are A Total Of Five Buildings On Seven Parcels That Are Included In The Sale

Among the items included in the sale is the museum at 1103 Rowley Avenue, which features many original costumes, props, and behind-the-scenes photos from the movie and other things associated with the film.

In addition, in the property’s detached garage, the listing suggests that a 1939 Ford LaFrance firetruck, much like the one shown in the movie, is housed, according to the listing. Additionally, there is also a 4,000-square-foot gift shop, as well as the Bumpus house, which is a fictional house that belongs to Ralphie’s “hillbilly neighbors” and their smelly hound dogs.

There are five buildings in this sale, which cover seven parcels of land in total. The property also boasts four parking lots, two of which are public, one of which is private, and two of which are empty, thus providing room for further development.

Jones and his family said the timing was “just right” for the campus to be listed for sale at a reasonable price. Are you willing to take over the property and make it your own? If you have any comments, please let us know.
