Shannen Doherty and her husband Kurt Iswarienko have pulled the plug on their romance after 11 years of marriage. The American actress filed for divorce from her husband Kurt on Friday, April 21, 2023.

In a statement shared with People magazine, Doherty’s representative, Leslie Sloane said, “Divorce is the last thing Shannen wanted. Unfortunately, she felt she was left with no other option.”

Leslie went on to say that Iswarienko’s agent was “intimately involved” with their divorce. As of this moment, neither Kurt nor his agent has made an official comment on their divorce.

As per the divorce papers obtained by the media outlet TMZ, Shannen and Kurt parted ways in January. At the moment, she is seeking spousal support. In addition to this, she is also asking the court to not award any support to her estranged photographer husband. The couple does not have any kids.

A couple of hours after the divorce filing, Shannen posted a cryptic message on her Instagram feed. She shared on Instagram, “The only people who deserve to be in your life are the ones who treat you with love, kindness and total respect.” She also posted the same on her Instagram Story.

When did Shannen Doherty and Kurt Iswarienko get married?

For those of you who are unaware, let us share with you, Shannen Doherty and her husband Kurt Iswarienko tied the knot in the year 2011. The pair exchanged their vows in October 2011.

Just a year after her wedding to Kurt, Shannen told People magazine, that she was taking her marriage to Iswarienko seriously. At that time, she said, “Marriage to me is such a gigantic commitment that it’s not something I’d ever go into lightly anymore. I’ve learned my lesson.”

The pair’s divorce announcement comes one month after Shannen told fans she was “feeling great” at a Charmed panel alongside Holly Marie Combs, Rose McGowan, Brian Krause, Dorian Gregory and Drew Fuller. The panel was moderated by Breanne L. Heldman, at 90s Con in Hartford, Connecticut.

Shannen Doherty has been married twice before

Prior to getting married to Kurt Iswarienko, Shannen walked down the aisle with Rick Salomon in the year 2002. The pair’s marriage wasn’t built to last forever. They decided to go their separate ways the following year. The pair did not have any children.

Before Rick, the Little House on the Prairie actress said ‘I Do’ to Ashley Hamilton, the son of Hollywood actor George Hamilton. The couple said their vows on October 11, 1993. They filed for divorce in April 1994.

Shannen Doherty has spent the last few years battling cancer

The Hollywood star has spent the last couple of years dealing with ongoing treatments for stage 4 breast cancer. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in the year 2015. She announced her remission, nearly 2 years later in 2017.

The Beverly Hills, 90210 alum confirmed the news of her remission while making an appearance on the talk show Good Morning America. In August 2016, she gushed over her beau Kurt and stated that he supported her while she batted the illness.

Doherty told Entertainment Tonight, “My marriage was always strong, but it’s made my marriage a thousand times stronger. He’s never missed a chemo. He’s never missed a sick day.”

At that time, Shannen recalled telling her husband Kurt Iswarienko she had cancer for the first time. She mentioned that he was waiting for her in the driveway after telling him the news over the phone.

She told the media outlet, “[He] hugged me and said, ‘We are going to get through this. You are going to be OK. We are going to get through this, you’re strong and you’re powerful and you’re not going anywhere.’ You have so much to do in your life. We are going to get through it as a family.”

Next month, the Suite 7 actress took to social media to talk about her cancer journey. At that point, she had nothing but good things to say about her husband Iswarienko for lending his support.

“Kurt has stood by my side thru sickness and makes me feel more loved now than ever. I would walk any path with this man. Take any bullet for him and slay every dragon to protect him. He is my soul mate. My other half. I am blessed,” she wrote alongside a photo of the two of them from their wedding day.

Then, the Tennessee native stated that her marriage “never meant more to me than they do now.” She added that the pair’s Malibu wedding was “exceptional because we committed for better or worse, in sickness or in health to love and cherish one another.”

After 3 years, Shannen said that the duo had been going through some “growing pains” before cancer “solidified” their relationship. In August 2019, she told People magazine, “We would lock horns on things, and instead of resolving it, we wouldn’t speak for a couple of days.”

She continued, “We don’t let a night go by mad at each other. …  Kurt and I look at each other with such profound respect now. He was my rock in every way possible, and he made sure I knew how much he loved and valued me. We have a much deeper appreciation [for each other] now, and a much larger capacity for forgiveness.”

Shannen Doherty feels “a responsibility” to shatter misconceptions about cancer

During a virtual panel for her Lifetime movie List of a Lifetime, Shannen told the reporters, “I feel like I have a responsibility in my more public life, which I separate from my acting life … to talk about cancer and perhaps educate people more and let people know that people with stage 4 are very much alive and very active.”

The Girls Just Want to Have Fun star went on to say, “My husband says that you would never know that I have cancer. I never really complain. I don’t really talk about it. It’s part of life at this point.”
