Spoiler Alert: Chainsaw Man Episode 1- “God & Chainsaw” Recap

Season 1 of Chainsaw Man just premiered on Crunchyroll with Episode 1 titled “God & Chainsaw.” The first episode introduced a young boy named Denji who’s under a massive debt of 38 million Yen. He lives in an abandoned shelter with Pochita.

Denji goes on a spree of odd jobs to make money and even decides to donate his organs to get additional cash. However, he earns the best by Devil Hunting which pitches him against a red squid-looking devil with multiple eyes and a vertical mouth.

The opening credits roll at this point. It is then revealed that Denji is working for the Yakuza hunting devils for pennies. He is unimaginably poor but dreams to have a better life for Pochita and himself, and also wants to have a girlfriend to spend his life with.

The scene then cuts to when Denji and Pochita first met. Denji’s father passed away when he was young and left him with the Yakuza debt that he’s been trying to pay off ever since his funeral.

Just after burying his father, Denji shortly met an injured Pochita who was nearby the area and the two developed an impromptu friendship that continued for years to come. Denji offered some of his blood to the adorable Chainsaw Devil, so it could heal itself.

We cut back to the present where Yakuza have led Denji into an abandoned factor under the guise that there’s a Devil inside. There is one indeed. However, it’s the Zombie Devil with whom the Yakuza have made a deal for demonic power.

We are left with a cliffhanger just at the premiere. All eyes are toward Episode 2 now which drops next Tuesday. Are you excited?
