Celebrities React on Will Smith’s Slap Incident at Oscars 2022

Will Smith, an American actor, didn’t take it easy when a celebrity made a joke about his wife.

Will Smith, popularly known as The Fresh Prince, attended this year’s Oscars in the hopes of winning another trophy.

Well, after being nominated for Best Actor and receiving his second Academy Award nod for his role as Chris Gardner in The Pursuit of Happyness (2006), in the previous Academy Awards.

But it appears that his rage overcame him during the Oscars when he slapped comedian ‘Chris Rock.’ Well, comedians sometimes touch on topics that are sensitive to some people, and Chris made that mistake, which enraged Will.

Let’s take a closer look at the sensitive subject and how other celebrities reacted to the occurrence.

Why Did ‘Will Smith’ Slap Chris Rock?

A joke made by Rock regarding Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head was how the fire spark started.

Rock said: “Jada, I love you,” laughing, “G.I. Jane 2, can’t wait to see it.” If you don’t understand what he’s saying, know that G.I. Jane 2 is a movie in which the lead actress has a bald head.

The remark was extremely disrespectful, and any loving husband would be enraged, leading to a physical reaction.

Will stormed the stage, punched rock in the face, and then returned to his seat, saying: “Keep my wife’s name out of your f****** mouth.”

Well, it happened at the Oscars, and many celebrities obviously are aware of the occurrence, and it appears that celebs have differing viewpoints on the subject.

Let’s go ahead and listen to them see their thoughts as well.

How Celebrities Reacted to this Incident

Will and Jada Smith’s son, Jaden Smith, seemed to be proud of his father for doing the right thing, as evidenced by his tweet just 20 minutes after the event.

He tweeted with proudness: “And That’s How We Do It.”

Kathy Griffin, a celebrity, appears to have tweeted something critical of Will’s behavior, noting that physically assaulting a comedian on stage is a very bad practice.

“Let me tell you something, it’s a very bad practice to walk up on stage and physically assault a Comedian.

Now we all have to worry about who wants to be the next Will Smith in comedy clubs and theaters” Griffin said.

Another celebrity, Joy-Ann Reid, tweeted and expressed her wish for the two brothers to resolve their problem, which they created on what was supposed to be a “night of celebration.”

“What should have been a night of celebration; with so many diverse nominees and presenters now has one, violent headline. Hopefully, these two brothers will work it out, and everyone can move on.” Reid said.

Another well-known figure Nick Viall implied in a tweet that Chris Rock just apologize for what you did.

He tweeted, “Just say my bad Chris #Oscars”

Jameela Jamil’s Opinion On The Matter

The English actress Jameela Jamil tweeted in Smith’s defense, defending him. As well as addressing certain delicate issues concerning ‘black women.’

“Will Smith said “Not Today”. A man big enough to absolutely floor him, slapped him softly enough that Chris barely moved because he made fun of his wife’s alopecia on a world stage. Don’t say #protectBlackwomen for two years, and then only condemn Will here. Come on…” Jamila tweeted.

Some other celebrity has a very different point of view that “Will and Chris both need a breather.”

She tweeted: “Violence isn’t ok. Assault is never the answer. Also? This is the 2nd time that Chris has made fun of Jada on the #Oscars stage, & tonight he went after her alopecia.

Punching down at someone’s auto-immune disease is wrong. Doing so on purpose is cruel. They both need a breather”

Even The Lieutenant Governor Of Maryland Shared His Opinion

The former Lieutenant Governor of Maryland also seems to be sharing his opinions on this matter stating that there was so much “wrong in this moment.”

“What a sad commentary when you slap the crap out of someone on live TV, win an Oscar, get a standing ovation, and then accept that Oscar talking about love. There was so much wrong with this moment. #Oscars2022,” Steele tweeted.

A celebrity named ‘Rob Reiner seems to be tweeting saying that “Will deserves an apology to Chris.”

Here is what he tweeted: “Will Smith owes Chris Rock a huge apology. There is no excuse for what he did. He’s lucky Chris is not filing assault charges. The excuses he made tonight were bullshit.”

Conan also mentioned something about this incident. He tweeted, “Just saw the Will Smith slap. Anyone have a late-night show I can borrow just for tomorrow?”

  1. Will Smith was completely out of line. You don’t physically assault someone because you don’t like what the said. You talk about it like grown ups. In his attempt to make Chris look bad, Smith made a fool of himself.

He also showed the world who he really is.

  2. The Academy needs to take his Award away. No longer a will smith fan.
Will Your career is Over. Where I Live at ( We take it oustside the house , not in). Disrespectful to everyone
    Shame In You

  3. Will Smith was in the wrong. Had it been me, they’d still be trying to pull my foot out of his butt. Chris Rock was the professional here.
And, the AUDIENCE was pathetic to give him a standing ovation when he received the Oscar that his stupid a** does not deserve. I like both Will and Chris, but Will is off my list of favorite people who I’d shell out a couple books to support his or her movies. I’m done with my Black people making ALL of us look bad.

  4. Will Smith committed an act of Battery at the Oscars. He’s no longer a role model to anyone. This was traumatic to see this violence shown on TV.
