Carly Pearce has called it quits with her boyfriend Riley King! The couple has broken up after two years of dating, King has confirmed. Pearce first hinted at the split while promoting her new track We Don’t Fight Anymore on Instagram on Monday.
The 33-year-old country singer began dating King in 2021. The two initially kept their relationship out of the public eye but spoke highly of each other on multiple occasions. Before falling for King, Pearce was married to singer Michael Ray for a brief period.
Carly Pearce and Riley King Split After Two Years of Dating
King, 29, confirmed his break-up with Pearce, stating, “Things didn’t work out. Carly and I have parted ways and I wish her nothing but the best in both her career and personal life.” Meanwhile, a source close to the former couple revealed that Pearce had ‘trust issues’ which led to the two going separate ways.
“She has a lot of trust issues. She went through that divorce with Michael Ray, and parts of that she’s still coping with and struggling with,” said the source, adding that her divorce from her former husband was ‘really hard for her’. Most of her songs were inspired by her divorce, which took a toll on her relationship with King.
The Couple Began Dating in 2021
The couple first sparked dating rumors in May 2021 when Pearce shared a photo of King in her Instagram story. The two then confirmed their romance in November of the same year by appearing at the CMA Awards together.
Pearce also opened up about her new love in an interview shortly after and said, “He’s not new, I’m just not putting him out into the world like I have in the past. He’s hot. He’s so hot. And I’m certainly not trying to hide him, but certainly don’t want to exploit my whole thing.”
In April this year, the couple attended the CMT Music Awards together. “We’re doing great. This is all he wants for me to do. I think it’s really hard to find a supportive significant other when you live this crazy life, and he does it like a champ,” Pearce said on the red carpet at the time.
Pearce Hinted at Trouble in Her Relationship Recently
The I Hope You’re Happy Now singer has not yet publically commented on her breakup. However, she did hint at trouble in her relationship with King while promoting her new track We Don’t Fight Anymore, a collaboration with Chris Stapleton.
“If we are honest with ourselves, we’ve all felt at some point in a relationship. The distance that feels heartbreaking, yet you’re also indifferent. I’ve always been a writer who never wanted to shy away from the ‘uncomfortable’ moments in all of our lives, and this song feels too important not to share,” Pearce wrote on Instagram on June 5th.
The Grammy winner was previously married to Michael Ray for eight months, before divorcing him in September 2020. Talking about her broken marriage, Pearce said at the time, “It was awful. It was so shameful. I felt like I had failed. I felt like I would never find love again because I was divorced at so young, and I was just embarrassed.”
