The 74th Cannes Film Festival 2021 is all set to raise its curtains this year on July 6 and will continue till July 17. And we are here to share the names of the celebrities who are forming the jury of the International Film Festival this year. The jury is formed by including five women and three men celebrities of seven nationalities.
The jury list who will be judging films this year includes Mati Diop, Mylène Farmer, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jessica Hausner, Mélanie Laurent, Kleber Mendonça Filho, Tahar Rahim, and Song Kang-ho. The jury will be presided by Jury President Spike Lee in deciding the fate of the 24 films of the 2021 Cannes competition.

The jury will make the announcement of the award winners on July 17 during the Closing Ceremony of the festival.
Let us get into the details of the jury members who are coming from five continents.
So the first one on our list is director Mati Diop. Her first film was Atlantics which got selected in the official competition at the Cannes Festival 2019 and was honored with Grand Prix. Diop who is also an actress was seen in films – In My Room in 2020, Antonio Campos’s Simon Killer in 2012 including Claire Denis’s 35 Shots of Rum in 2008.
The Canadian-born French Mylène Farmer is a top singer in France and Canada. She has achieved the success of selling 35 million records over her 35-year career. She rose to fame in the 1980s and is one of the most successful recording artists in France. She hit the records with her songs Pourvu qu’elles soient douces, Sans contrefaçon among many others.
Maggie Gyllenhaal is an actress, producer, screenwriter, and director who was nominated for the Academy Award. Her first film was Donnie Darko (2001) who then gave brilliant performances in Secretary (2002) and Sherrybaby (2006). She was also nominated for her first Oscar for her role in Crazy Heart in 2009.
Austrian director Jessica Hausner’s two films – Lovely Rita and Hotel were premiered at the Festival de Cannes in the Uncertain Regard section. Jessica Hausner’s directorial film Lourdes was honored with the FIPRESCI Prize.
The French actress Mélanie Laurent who is also part of the Cannes Film Festival 2021 jury is popular for her role in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds. The actress featured in over 40 films. The actress was also honored with Cesar Award for her Film Tomorrow in 2015 under the Best Documentary Film.
Kleber Mendonça Filho is a Brazilian director whose second film Aquarius was a part of the 69th Cannes Film festival competition in 2016.
Tahar Rahim, a French actor was seen in The Serpent and Kevin Macdonald’s film The Mauritanian. Rahim won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival along with nine César awards for his fabulous performance in Jacques Audiard’s A Prophet in 2009.
Song Kang-ho is a South Korean actor who featured in a number of films – Memories of Murder (2003), The Host (2006), Snowpiercer (2013), Okja (2017) among others. However, his 2019 film Parasite has been successful in winning four Oscars. Song Kang-ho also made his place in the New York Times “25 Greatest Actors of the 21st Century” in the year 2020.
