We have the names of the 2023 BET Awards winners! This year, the annual award show took place on June 25, 2023, Sunday at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles. The ceremony was packed with many beautiful moments.
For those of you who are unaware, let us share with you, this was the 23rd edition of the BET Awards. Read on to learn the names of the celebrities who went back home with the prestigious trophy.
Who won big at the BET Awards 2023?
Queen Bey walked away with the most awards on Sunday night. Beyoncé and SZA tied for the Album of the Year Award. Along with this, she also picked up the BET Her Award and Viewer’s Choice Award for her song Break My Soul.
On the other hand, when we talk about SZA whose real name is Solána Imani Rowe, she was named Best Female R&B/Pop Artist. She also took home the BET Award for Video of the Year for her smashing hit single Kill Bill.Â
Latto won the award for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist, meanwhile, Kendrick Lamar nabbed the award in the male category. And the BET Award for Best New Artist went to Coco Jones. Chris Brown and Usher tied for best male R&B/pop artist.
Busta Rhymes received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2023 BET Awards
The 2023 BET Awards honored the rap icon Busta Rhymes with the Lifetime Achievement Award. While accepting the great honor, he got pretty emotional and talked about his career and urged rappers to stop fighting with one another and pay all their attention to putting out great music for the fans.
In his acceptance speech, the I Know What You Want crooner said, “So, I’m gonna wear it on my sleeve. I do wanna cry.” The musician attributed part of his success to his Black cultural heritage.
The multiplatinum rapper, songwriter, and record producer said, “A lot of greatness from our people and our culture is by default ‘cause it’s just the magic that we have. I just am grateful (for) the blessing that has been bestowed upon me and this gift that I have been given, and this fire that continues to burn as a passion in my soul.”
Busta continued, “It’s just me trying to do my duty to continue to advance the culture and continue to contribute in a significant way. I see so many people in here that I have known and grown with for a long time, you’re watching me grow and I love y’all and I know y’all love me.”
