1. Shershaah

Shershaah film was released recently on August 12 ahead of Independence day. Shershaah is a biographical war action film directed by Vishnuvardhan. The film is a homage to the courage of Indian soldiers.

The film showcases the life journey of Param Vir Chakra awardee and army captain Vikram Batra, played by Sidharth Malhotra. Vikram Batra sacrifices his life during the Kargil War of 1999.

2. Border

‘Border’ is another patriotic movie that garnered a lot of love from the viewers. This war movie shows the real events that occurred during the Battle of Longewala between India and Pakistan in the year 1971. It depicts how 120 Indian soldiers took care of their posts the whole night and received help from the Indian Air Force.

The film was directed by  J. P. Dutta and featured an ensemble cast of Sunny Deol, Sunil Shetty, Akshaye Khanna, Jackie Shroff, Sudesh Berry, Puneet Issar, and Kulbhushan Kharbanda. Supporting roles were played by Tabu, Raakhee, Pooja Bhatt, and Sharbani Mukherjee.

This film will certainly make you feel nostalgic by looking at the Bravehearts battling for the country.

3. Uri: The Surgical Strike

This super hit patriotic film which broke the box office records is about the surgical strike operation carried by our Indian army. Well if you love war films, this is one such movie that cannot be missed.

Vicky Kaushal plays the lead role in the film as Major Vihan Shergill.

4. Chak De! India

Shah Rukh Khan portrays the role of Kabir Khan, who takes charge of the Indian Women’s National Hockey Team as its coach. Kabir Khan puts all his efforts to ensure that his team emerges victorious. This sports film is helmed by Shimit Amin.

5. The Legend of Bhagat Singh

The Legend of Bhagat Singh is a biography film directed by Rajkumar Santoshi.  The film is based on the life of Bhagat Singh.

Ajay Devgan portrays the role of the young revolutionary freedom fighter Bhagat Singh. The film has received immense love from the viewers.

6. Gandhi

This is a period biographical film that depicts the important events in the life of Mahatma Gandhi, also referred to as ‘Father of the Nation’. The film has been directed by Richard Attenborough.

Ben Kingsley was seen playing the role of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi aka Mahatma Gandhi. The movie shows the tale of Mahatma Gandhi and his struggle to make India free from British rule.

7. Lagaan

The film Lagaan is one of the huge hit movies by Aamir Khan. The Ashutosh Gowariker directorial film is one of the must-watch movies this Independence Day. The movie has been a huge success and was even nominated for the Academy Awards in 2002.

8. Lakshya

This is another movie to watch if you love war movies. The film is based on the Kargil War. The film which is directed by Farhan Akhtar depicts the story of a young man joining the army without an aim and how he finds the true purpose of his life in the midst of the war.

Hrithik Roshan plays the role of the young army officer Karan Shergill. You can binge-watch this movie on Netflix.

9. Mangal Pandey: The Rising

This is a historical biographical drama directed by Ketan Mehta. The film depicts the rise of an Indian soldier(sepoy), Mangal Pandey played by Aamir Khan. Mangal Pandey raises his voice against the British when he finds that a rifle using cartridges with beef was introduced by the East India Company.

This revolt was also referred to as Sepoy Mutiny by the British. Mangal Pandey led the revolt of 1857 which is otherwise known as the first war of Indian Independence.

10. LOC: Kargil

IMDb Rating: 5.2/10

Yet another J.P. Dutta war film, LOC: Kargil is based on the Kargil war that was fought between India and Pakistan. The film makes us realise the sacrifices made by the soldiers on the battlefield.

The movie features Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan, and Sunil Shetty in lead roles. Watch the movie to get a glimpse of the lives of the brave martyrs.
