‘Backstreet Boys’ Fame AJ McLean Announces ‘Temporary’ Separation From Wife

It’s a bumpy road ahead for “Backstreet Boys” singer AJ McLean after the artist announced that he is temporarily separating from his wife, Rochelle. The couple made a joint statement and stated that they have taken the step to “work on themselves, and their marriage.”

Alexander James McLean and his wife, Rochelle McLean have announced a “temporary” separation as their marriage requires further work. In a joint statement, the “Backstreet Boys” artist explained: “Marriage is hard but worth it. We have mutually decided to separate temporarily to work on ourselves, and on our marriage with the hope of building a stronger future.”

But again, AJ and Rochelle have taken the step so they could come out stronger. “The plan is to come back together and continue to nurture our love for one another and our family. We ask for respect and privacy at this time,” AJ McLean explained.

AJ McLean and Rochelle first met in 2008, but their connection only blossomed five years late. The “As Long As You Love Me” artist previously expressed in a 2022 podcast, that he asked out Rochelle while she was working as a waitress at Saddle Ranch, West Hollywood.

He said, “I asked her out, and then she asked her manager who I was. Our first date was supposed to be dinner and a movie. And I worked late in the studio the night before.” Aj added, “So I was like, ‘Why don’t you just come over to the house? And we’ll watch a movie, and we’ll order in.”

AJ also revealed that Rochelle had no idea about who he was at the time and she ghosted him. It was only one year later that she said yes when AJ asked her out for the second time. The two tied the knot in 2011, and have been tight since then. The couple is known for always putting their marriage first.

The 45-year-old singer previously decided to focus on his family life and gave up social media. He posted an Instagram video in 2019, explaining that he is giving up interactions to focus on his family.

He said: “I’m sure you guys are all wondering what in the world is going on with A.J.’s Instagram. Well, I’m here to let you know it’s a new year. I’m doing a reboot of my Instagram account. Social media has become a little too overconsuming for me and I want to focus more on my family, my friends and life in general and not let social media control me and my time – my valuable time with my kids especially.”

The caption for the video read: “Hey everyone! Stepping away from social media a little bit this year to focus on my family, friends, and life in general. In the meantime, my team will keep you guys updated on everything going on. Can’t wait to see your faces on the DNA tour … love you all. (sic)”

The couple shares two daughters, Elliott, 10, and Lyric, 6. Previously, AJ McLean credited his loving wife and children for helping him to get sober and overcome a more-than-two-decade struggle with substance abuse. We hope that the two come out stronger than ever after this “temporary” separation.
