Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan are currently two of the highest paid actors in the world.
The two superstars are part of Forbes Magazine’s new list of the top 10 highest paid actors. Kumar and Khan are the only South Asians on the list and they hold the 7th and 9th places respectively on the list.
According to the Forbes list, Kumar earned $40.5 million and Khan has earned $38.5 million in the past year. Kumar made most of his earnings from his recent, socially relevant films “Toilet: Ek Prem Katha,” and “Padman.” Kumar also has endorsement deals with about 20 different brands including Tata, a financial conglomerate, and the Eveready, a battery manufacturer.
Khan’s earnings were also through many of the successful films he has starred in and produced, including the mega-hit “Tiger Zinda Hai” co-starring Katrina Kaif. Like Kumar, Khan also has numerous endorsement deals under his belt including Suzuki motorcycles and Chlormint gum.
It is no surprise that these former co-stars and friends have made it to the list. With Kumar’s comedies like the “Housefull” series and Khan’s masala filled romances like the “Dabaang” series both stars have become box-office hit-makers in the past few years.
As for the rest of the world’s highest paid actors: George Clooney holds the top place on the list with $239 million and Dwayne Johnson is second with earnings of $124 million. Other stars on the list include Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Jackie Chan, Will Smith, Adam Sandler and Chris Evans.
Alas, no South Asian actresses made Forbes’ list this year.
