Here’s all you need to know about ACM Awards 2023
The 2023 Academy of Country Music Awards were held at the Ford Centre in Frisco, Texas on Thursday, May 11, 2023. Recently, all of the biggest names in country music came together under one roof to honor the brightest stars in the genre.
The award show was exclusively live-streamed on Prime Video for free. The full rebroadcast of the 2023 ACM Awards will be streaming tomorrow for free on Amazon Freevee.
This year, Hardy led the list of nominees from the front with a total of 7 nods in his kitty. He was closely followed by Lainey Wilson who was nominated in 6 categories. Cole Swindell, Kane Brown, Luke Combs, and Miranda Lambert received 5 nominations each.
Who was the big winner of the night?
The answer to the above question is Lainey Wilson. The American singer-songwriter best known for hit songs like Things a Man Oughta Know, Heart Like a Truck, and Hold My Halo won most awards on Thursday night at the 2023 Academy of Country Music Awards.
Yesterday, Wilson picked up the ACM Award for album of the year for her album Bell Bottom Country. In her acceptance speech, she said, “I wrote 300 songs during the pandemic.” She further added, “Writing these songs saved mine.”
Soon after, Lainey quoted one of her own lines, “Be who you are, ’cause everybody else is taken.” She also won the award for female artist of the year. While accepting the trophy, she said, “I can’t believe I just met Dolly Parton, first of all.”
The country music star further added, “I’m up here because of people like Dolly Parton paving the way.” She even gushed over her fellow nominees who missed a lot of weddings, a lot of funerals — not that I want to go to all of them anyway.
Along with this, Wilson even motivated young girls watching to believe in their dreams, with a caveat: “If you wanna be a dreamer, you better be a do-er.”
Chris Stapleton was named entertainer of the year
Chris Stapleton bagged the award for entertainer of the year at the 2023 Academy of Country Music Awards. His fellow nominees were as follows: Jason Aldean, Kane Brown, Luke Combs, Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood and Morgan Wallen.
In his award-winning speech, the You Should Probably Leave singer-songwriter said, “Well, I’m shocked — truly. By any imaginable metric I don’t deserve this, but thank you. There’s so many other great people in this category. I stand up, and I play music. That’s what I try to do every night. I write songs, and I make records.”He went on to say, “I never thought of myself as somebody who’d win this award. I’m so grateful for each and every person who works so hard to make us able to do what we do — my wife Morgane, thank you.”
Chris also offered a token of thanks to this record label, management company and “all the guys on the road, touring.” He dedicated his award to his wife Morgane and their 5 kids: Ada, Waylon, Macon, Samuel and another son, whose name has not been disclosed till now.
Stapleton concluded his speech by saying, “I’m really at a loss of what to say, but I want to say, my kids sitting at home, they give up a lot of my time, a lot of my wife’s time so we can do this. This is for them.”
Hardy and Lainey Wilson won the visual media of the year award at the 2023 ACM Awards
On the other hand, Hardy also walked away with a few trophies. He and Lainey accepted the award for visual media of the year award for their song Wait In The Truck, which tells a story of revenge after domestic violence upon a girl. The duo also picked the award for the music event of the year.
Hardy who was also named artist-songwriter of the year said, “Thank you, everybody, for resonating with this song, especially something of this subject. Thank you, Lainey, you absolutely killed it. There was no doubt you were always the one to make people believe this song.”
Wilson chimed in and she shed some light on the topic of domestic abuse and continued, “I think it’s really important to sing about things that are hard to talk about. I didn’t want people to relate to this song, but a lot of people do, and this one is for y’all.”
Old Dominion nabbed the ACM award for group of the year
And the award for group of the year went to Old Dominion which consists of members Matthew Ramsey, Trevor Rosen, Whit Sellers, Geoff Sprung, and Brad Tursi. Ramsey gave an emotional speech at the 58th Academy of Country Music Awards.
Matthew said, “I also know that there are people obviously hurting in the world right now, trying to figure out how to make sense of divisiveness, and shootings, and things like that. And there are people that are really hurting right now, and we are still proud to be in a room full of country music fans and make music for those people, but we’re most proud to be able to make music for people that are hurting right now.”
Ramsey further added, “So thank you for including us in this party, and allowing us to make music for whoever needs it. We will continue to try and do so, and thank you to my friends here for holding me up when I needed it.”
Who were the other notable winners?
On Thursday night, Morgan Wallen won the award for male artist of the year. He had to skip the award show as he has been on vocal rest. Brooks added, “To win it and not be here must be killing him. Let’s all celebrate for him tonight.”
Brothers Osborne accepted the award for duo of the year. Hailey Whitters was named new female artist of the year, meanwhile, Zach Bryan bagged the award in the male category.
Cole Swindell nabbed the award for single of the year for his track She Had Me at Heads Carolina. Along with this, he also won the trophy for song of the year. He said, “There’s a kid watching this tonight that’s going to get inspired by somebody’s song and they’re going to follow it up and chase the dream like we all have.”
