The original star will reportedly return for a fourth installment in what seems to be a comeback for the iconic romantic comedy.
The Bridget Jones’s Diary saga is about to enter a brand-new chapter as we begin with the addition of the fourth chapter by Helen Fielding.
The Film ‘Bridget Jones 4’ Is Currently In The Works
There are reports that Renée Zellweger will be starring in the fourth installment of the popular series, which is based on a series of novels written by Helen Fielding.
As reported by the author, she is currently adapting her 2013 comedy novel ‘Mad About The Boy to the big screen for a third installment in the series. She hopes that all the pieces come together for a successful sequel.
She responded, “Yes, I’m working on it, and I really hope it will happen. Every film that gets made is a miracle — it’s really difficult to make films happen and to make them successful. But I’d love to see it on the screen.”
We last saw the self-deprecating laugh six years ago in ‘Bridget Jones’s Baby,’ but about a year later, with all the excitement of a baby’s arrival, she was back in the mid-50s with a bang.
By the movie’s end, Bridget had given birth to a son. She also married Colin Firth’s character, Mark Darcy. She has been romantically linked since she first saw him and his excellent Christmas jumper at the film’s beginning.
It Is Possible That Firth Will Not Be Returning To ‘Bridget Jones 4’
However, Firth may not return to Fielding’s ‘Bridget Jones 4’, which has yet to be announced. In the original novel, Bridget Darcy lives as a single parent looking to find love again. This is around the age of 50, four years after the tragic death of Mark Darcy. This is an event that takes place four years after Mark’s passing.
There has yet to be any confirmation whether any secondary cast members will return for ‘Bridget Jones 4’. However, it isn’t easy to imagine that the film would have been in development without the presence of Renée Zellweger.
According to an interview with Vanity Fair in 2021, the actress said she would love the chance to revisit the character one more time: “Man, I’d love the experience of revisiting her. I love her. I think she’s so much fun. She’s the most delightful. So, sure, if I got invited to that, that sounds fun.”
After Hugh Grant successfully returned to acting, and after he missed out on Bridget Jones’s Baby, he may return to the role of Daniel Cleaver. Unfortunately, this will be the movie that is likely to be the last one in the series.
