When Charlie starts sitting with his fellow mate Nick, the two of them develop a close friendship that turns into something more as the rugby player slowly comes to terms with his sexuality.
Heartstopper also stars William Gao as Tao Xu, Yasmin Finney as Elle Argent, Kizzy Edgell as Darcy Olsson, and Corinna Brown as Tara Jones.
Kit actually auditioned for the role of Charlie Spring
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the Mercy actor revealed that he auditioned for the character of Charlie but destiny had other plans for him and he ended up getting the role of Nick Nelson. He said, “Actually, I did audition for Charlie, which I think a lot of the Heartstopper fans find absolutely ridiculous.”
Connor further added, “I did this scene, a monologue [from] after their first kiss. … It’s a beautiful scene and it’s a really wonderfully written scene so I was really excited to do it. But yeah, I auditioned for Charlie and then was quite quickly changed over to Nick I think as soon as they saw me really.”
What did Kit have to say about his character in ‘Heartstopper’?
During an interaction with Them in April of 2022, the 18-year-old spilled the beans on his character Nick Nelson. He said, “Nick is, in many ways, who I aspire to be. I’d love to say that I was just pure and wonderful and kind and just generally as lovely as Nick or Charlie.”
Kit further added, “They’re just so pure. I don’t really know what other words to use. That’s what I try to be, and that’s what I think everyone should try to be. Nick and Charlie are great role models for not just kids growing up, but really, everyone.”
Kit was scared to work with Olivia Colman
It was not like Connor was making his acting debut with Heartstopper but still, anyone would feel nervous while working with a big star. He was pretty intimated to share the screen with the Oscar winner. She played the role of his mother in the show.
Kit told NME in April 2022, “I was definitely nervous about my scene with Olivia Colman at the end of the show. And especially when we found out it was Olivia Colman [playing Nick’s mum], Joe would keep on saying, ‘You’ll be doing your big scene with Olivia Colman this time next week.”
Connor concluded by saying, “I tried to play it cool even though I was really anxious, but I was very happy with how it turned out in the end.”
