For those of you who are unaware, let us share with you, Whitney Houston and her ex-husband Bobby Brown welcomed their only child together, daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown on March 4, 1993.

Bobbi Kristina who grew up in front of flashing cameras had a total of six half-siblings through her father’s past relationships. Before getting married to Whitney, he was hitched to Alicia Etheredge.

Along with her parents, Bobbi Kristina had a few other notable relatives. The two-time Grammy Award winner Cissy Houston of The Drinkard Singers was the maternal grandmother of Bobbi Kristina. On the other hand, her mom’s cousins were talented musicians Dee Dee Warwick, Dionne Warwick, and Leontyne Price.

Former NBA player Garly Garland was Whitney’s half-brother and Bobbi Kristina’s uncle. Bobbi Kristina’s godmother was gospel singer CeCe Winans and music executive Clive Davis who discovered Whitney and fostered her career was her godfather.

Like mom like daughter! Bobbi Kristina Brown wanted to be a singer, a dream that was encouraged by Whitney Houston since her daughter was young. Bobbi’s vocals were recorded and featured in Whitney’s music even before she began joining her mom on stage during shows.

You will be able to hear the voice of Bobbi Kristina at the start of the 1998 single “My Love Is Your Love” off Houston’s album of the same name. In the first verse, she tells her starlet mom “Sing, mommy,” and at the end of the track, she says, “Clap your hands!”

 

A couple of years later, Bobbi Kristina was featured on her mother Whitney’s 2003 seasonal record, One Wish: The Holiday Album. At that point, the 10-year-old Bobbi Kristina gave vocals for the song Little Drummer Boy.

Apart from reality TV, Bobbi Kristina also tried her hand at acting. She made her acting debut in Tyler Perry’s series For Better or Worse in 2012. She played the role of Tina, the receptionist in the show.

Bobbi Kristina Brown was one of Whitney Houston’s inspirations

Whitney Houston was a doting mom and she used to take parenting very seriously. During a 1995 interview, she said, “Being a mother… you kind of stop living for yourself and you start living for your children.”

The I Wanna Dance With Somebody singer went on to say, “Everything that I do, everything that I think, everything that I say, Bobbi Kristina is on my mind.” She often gave her daughter Bobbi Kristina advice and wanted to instill truth in her daughter.

The Grammy winner talked about the advice she gave to her daughter and further added, “Be true to yourself. You can fool people, you can fool anybody any time of the day, but you can’t fool yourself.”

The two of them admired each other equally. In one of her final interviews, Whitney said, “My daughter is my greatest inspiration. My greatest, my greatest.”

Bobbi Kristina Brown revealed she got married to Nick Gordon

In July 2013, Bobbi Kristina Brown announced that she was engaged to a close family friend, Nick Gordon. Her grandmother Cissy gave her blessing to the pair before their engagement.

As per various reports, Bobbi Kristina secretly tied the knot with Nick Gordan in January 2014. The news of the pair’s marriage caused a stir as Whitney raised Gordon like her son but she never legally adopted him.

The pair’s union further raised eyebrows among friends, family, and fans when a lawyer for Bobbi Kristina’s father stated that the union had never happened, despite Bobbi Kristina having referred to Nick as an “incredible husband”.

Bobbi Kristina’s lawyer debunked that the marriage took place three days after, Nick and a pal found Bobbi Kristina unconscious in a bathtub at her Roswell, Georgia, home. Later on, in September 2017, Gordon was found liable in her wrongful death case and ordered to pay $36 million to Bobbi Kristina’s estate. After nearly 3 years, he passed away due to an accidental heroin overdose.

How did Bobbi Kristina Brown die?

Bobbi Kristina Brown passed away on July 26, 2015. The Fulton County Medical Examiner disclosed that she died of drowning and drug intoxication. She left for the heavenly abode at the young age of 22.

As per a toxicology report, marijuana, alcohol, “a cocaine-related substance,” sedative and anti-anxiety medications, and morphine were found in her system. The news of her death saw the light of day months after she was found unresponsive in her bathtub on January 21, 2015.

In the next couple of months, Bobbi Kristina Brown spent most of her time in a rehabilitation center and hospice care until she passed away that July. At that time, the medical examiner’s office issued a statement that read, “The underlying cause of death is the condition which starts the downhill course of events leading to death and in this case is the immersion associated with drug intoxication.”

It further read, “The pneumonia and encephalopathy are more immediate causes which resulted from the immersion and drug intoxication.” After her death, Bobbi Kristina was the subject of a film named Whitney Houston & Bobbi Kristina: Didn’t We Almost Have It All which was released in 2021.
