The Good and Bad of the MCU Phase 4 Journey

MCU Phase IV ended with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever hitting the theatres. But the fans consider Phase IV as one of the worst phases of Movies in MCU. Many fans did not prefer this phase after Marvel delivered two major global hits, Infinity War and End Game in the previous phase. This phase is a kind of anticlimactic phase in comparison to Phase III.

What has Phase 4 offered to the Fans?

But Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase IV opened up a lot of possibilities like presenting the Disney plus series and doing some experimental kinds of stuff like Wanda Vision, She-Hulk, and Werewolf by Night. Phase IV has also introduced the Quantum realm and the Multiverse.

The reference to Multiverse first came in Spider-Man: Far from Home. But It was never fully explored until Loki Disney plus series.

Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness fully explored that possibility and presented what the possibilities will be in the future. This phase introduced two new kinds in the MCU, which were Eternals and Mutants.

Good Aspects and New Superheroes

MCU Phase IV started with the Black Widow solo film, which explained the origin of Natasha Romanoff and her family members.

Then, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings hit the theatres in2021. This movie prominently featured the first Asian American superhero in the MCU. At the end of the movie, we are confirmed that the remaining members of the Avengers are out to recruit more superheroes for their team.

The Eternals movie was some kind of a new experience for the audience, as the visual effects and camera works are different from typical Marvel films.

But Spiderman: No Way Home took the fans by storm. This special film connected all the previous versions of Spiderman from a different studio in one movie. It was a massive moment for Spiderman fans when they watched three Spider-Men teaming up together.

Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness was an awesome and horrific journey of Multiverse. Scarlet Witch turned villain while chasing Doctor Strange and America Chavez in this film.

But the last two films Thor: Love and Thunder and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever have no connection to Multiverse or Time Travel. Wakanda Forever was very special for fans as it paid a proper tribute to Chadwick Boseman’s sudden demise in 2020 due to cancer.

Talking about the Disneyplus series, those were quite innovative ideas from Disney in handling the MCU. Now, fans can dive deep into MCU and understand a lot of shorter characters.

New superheroes like Shang Chi, Eternals, Black Knight, America Chavez, Yelena Belova, Namor, Iron Heart, Werewolf by Night, She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, and Kate Bishop were introduced to fans for the first time.

Some new superheroes are also teased for the future. But Netflix’s Daredevil’s return to the MCU was one of the overwhelming moments for the fans.

Bad Aspects of MCU Phase 4

Talking about the negative aspects of Phase IV, the first one is She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. This particular series received a lot of negative reactions from fans. It also has the lowest show rating in MCU’s history.

The MCU fans also complained about the runtime of the movies. Doctor Strange: Multiverse of the Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder had very low run-time. But despite all these issues, they delivered the second-longest movie in the MCU, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, in this phase.

To put it simply, Phase 4 movies have 16 hours and 16 minutes of content excluding all the Disneyplus series.

Fans may have been a little bit disappointed with this phase. But Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has summed up Phase IV in a dashing and enjoyable manner. However, Phase IV has just perfectly set up the threats of Kang the Conqueror, Multiverse, and most notably “incursion” for the next phases. Phase 5 will be more action-packed without any Avengers film.
