People tend to assume makeup is about showing off or looking good for others.
But getting glammed up can be a way of partaking in self-care as well. It’s about taking the time to take care of yourself, expressing your creativity through makeup, and feeling confident about being in your own skin. When you look good, you feel good and self-care is vital for a healthier you.
So this year we’re looking at Valentine’s day makeup tutorials from a different perspective where, it’s not about your significant other, it’s all about you!
Let’s start with the head with hair tutorials, check out Malvika Sitlani’s Valentine’s day hair tutorial. She uses dry shampoo for some extra fluff and incorporates simple braids into both hairstyles for a fun look.
Dry shampoo is an easy way to soak up the extra grease and dirt in your hair without actually getting it wet. It’s a good way to take care of your hair when you haven’t had time to wash it and reduces damage caused by over-washing your hair. She also uses heat protectants to add shine to her hair while protecting it from the intense damage caused by the heat of tools like straighteners, blow dryers and curlers.
She uses a lot of EIMI brand products you can find easily at Ulta Beauty, most of which are under $20! Saving money is totally self-care, I think?
Sitlani also got creative with her Valentine’s day inspired looks as she created two separate tutorials, one using only high-end makeup and another with drugstore brands. Both looks are super glamorous and offer something different. Her drugstore tutorial focuses more on shades of pink and is romantic while the high-end makeup tutorial is geared towards a sparkle filled night out.
This next look comes from Nepalese-American beauty blogger Rupa Shrestha. Shrestha took inspiration from the queen of Bollywood, Deepika Padukone for this Valentine’s day look. She attempted to recreate the subtle look with a pop of color Padukone rocked on her colorful Vogue India cover.
I don’t know about you guys but if I can look even .5% like Padukone, I’m going to be walking down the street like it’s a runway! Move out the way Tyra Banks, I got this. #Confidence
Shreya Jain brings us a soft, glowy pink look using high-end products. The plus point of this tutorial is that Jain includes some serious self-care with tips on how to prep your skin and how to remove makeup best so your skin stays healthy and glowing.
If you don’t properly prep prior to getting ready, makeup doesn’t sit well on your skin. Of course, makeup removal is just as important because the dirt build up will clog your pores and can cause acne. Going to bed without removing y
our make up properly is very unhealthy for your skin and can lead to pimples.
Beauty blogger Runa has an “anti-valentine’s day look” for you! Though the Bengali-American blogger is married, she and her husband don’t buy into the holiday as much because it’s such a hassle and so costly. I feel you girl, this holiday is depleting my bank account fast!
As usual, Runa went all out with this look, using colors that are anti-valentines day, so obviously no reds or pinks. She created a pretty fierce and vampy look for the holiday with blues and a dark plum liquid lipstick. Though she calls it her “anti-Valentine’s day” tutorial, you can still rock it for the holiday.
British makeup artist and beauty blogger Anchal dropped a stunning new makeup tutorial for the single ladies on Valentine’s day. Anchal shows the single ladies how to slay it this Valentine’s day with her pink on pink eye look paired with neutral lips.
Anchal actually included skin prep with this tutorial as well, something she doesn’t normally do. #SelfCare all day, y’all!
Self-care is necessary for everyone, so indulge in yourself, you’re worth it, Boo!
