7 Desi Drake Remixes that pay Homage to Drizzy on his Birthday
It’s Drake’s birthday today, y’all, and what better way to celebrate @champagepapi than to share my favorite desi versions of his songs?
Are most of these covers some version of One Dance or Hotline Bling? Yes. Am I aware that his breadth of work goes beyond these two songs? Yes. But for whatever reason, desis jumped on those two jams and parodied, remixed, re-did the shit out of ’em.
Some are wickedly good, others stupidly funny (I’m looking at you, Jus Reign). So getcha piece of birthday Drizzy Drake Cake and enjoy October 24!
1. Jus Reign’s version of One Dance
So much time has passed since this was shared with the world and still, I laugh. Every. Damn. Time.
2. Jus Reign again, but this time the Punjabi Dad Remix of Hotline Bling
Not just Punjabis, this dad remix right here is sure to hit an (offbeat) chord with ALL desi’s.
3. Vidya Vox’s One Dance-Gur Naalo Isqh Mitha mashup
For those of you who want something a bit more serious, not to mention a helluva lot more melodious, we bring you Vox’s fusion rendition, complete with lyrics so you can sing along with her. You’re welcome.
4. The “Indian Remix” of Hotline Bling…but really it’s Jhoom Barabar Jhoom
Drake was made for Bollywood as some clever and timely editing clearly demonstrates.
5. The Indian Classical Version of Hotline Bling
Mahesh Raghavan morphs Drake into “Drakeananda” in this classical rendition which I like almost as much as the original.
6. A dope AF tabla cover of Hotline Bling
It just flows so damn well!
7. Started from the Bottom…on the sitar
Thought I’d end my list with a Drake song other than Hotline Bling or One Dance. Check out this cover by sitar powerhouse Karan Sandhu.
