Bollywood actress Sunny Leone and husband Daniel Weber have released a new poster for the animal rights organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), which is making waves because the couple is posing in the nude.
The poster features the two sitting tangled in each other’s arms while flaunting Weber’s tattoos with the tagline, “Ink Not Mink.” The ad was shot by photographer Subi Samuel and released for World Vegan Month.
The new poster is a campaign by PETA that promotes animal-free fashion. According to PETA, millions of animals are killed for fashion every year. Foxes, minks, coyotes, rabbits, dogs, and cats are sometimes bludgeoned to death for their skin. Others are electrocuted, strangled or even skinned alive to make clothing out of their skin.
“We live in a world with such amazing advances in vegan materials and options for everyone. There is no reason for anyone to support cruelty in any form,” Leone said in a statement regarding the new campaign. “Synthetic leather, mock croc, and even faux fur are some of the many great options.”
Weber repeated the same sentiments as his wife regarding the cruelty towards animals in the name of fashion. “We need to be a voice for animals and make sure we understand that, without them, there is no us,” explained Weber. “We must co-exist and learn to respect.”
This isn’t Leone’s first collaboration with PETA. She has been a part of pro-vegetarian and dog and cat sterilization campaigns as well. She was even PETA’s Person of the Year last year.
Since the start of her career, Leone has been criticized, whether it is for her past as an adult star or, more recently, her Navratri condom ad. She has always taken criticism well and her bold responses have splashed her name in the news. This time Leone’s making waves for a good cause. However, saving animals isn’t Leone’s only passion. She has and history of advocating for equality and empowering women. She has also raised funds for charities like the American Cancer Society.
