Here is your handy guide to this month’s big releases so start planning your Friday sick leaves accordingly.

1. “Veere Di Wedding”

Releasing on: June 1

Starring: Sonam Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Swara Bhaskar, Shikha Talsania

A female buddy comedy in Bollywood where the women value friendship, are brutally honest, curse like they’re paid to do it, have meaningful conversations about relationships, and rely on each other? “Veere Di Wedding” is breaking several norms. In the film, Kapoor-Khan’s Kalindi Puri gets engaged and the friends embark on an emotional, humorous journey to figure out their lives.

2. “A Kid Like Jake”

Releasing on: June 1

Starring: Jim Parsons, Claire Danes, Priyanka Chopra, Aasif Mandvi, Octavia Spencer

In this indie movie, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, is getting rave reviews for its relevant subject. Alex and Greg Wheeler navigate their parental methods and their own relationship as they try to help their 4-year-old Jake, who is going through a gender identity crisis. Chopra plays Amal, their neighbor. This will be her second Hollywood big-screen appearance following her villainous role in “Baywatch.”

3. “Bhavesh Joshi”

Releasing on: June 1

Starring: Harshvardhan Kapoor, Nishikant Kamat, Radhika Apte

Bollywood hasn’t necessarily succeeded with films about superheroes but maybe this one will be a game-changer? Kapoor stars as Siku, who turns into a vigilante when a close friend is killed. He seeks revenge for his death while also trying to fix the corruption in the government. If made well, this could be a realistic and even thrilling experience.

4. “Ocean’s 8”

Releasing on: June 8

Starring: Sandra Bullock, Mindy Kaling, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Awkwafina, Helena Bonham Carter, Sarah Paulson

In what looks like an endearing, funny caper, this heist film is an all-female spin-off of Steven Soderbergh’s “Ocean’s” trilogy. Bullock plays Debbie Ocean, who after being released from prison, gathers a team of efficient women to rob the Met Gala. More specifically, they hatch a plan to steal an expensive necklace which will be worn by narcissistic actress Daphne Kluger (Hathaway) at the Gala. Kaling plays Amita, a jeweler from Jackson Heights, Queens. Fun fact: she had to learn how to speak Hindi for this role. Also, let it digest that a South Asian-American actress is playing a protagonist in a popular, established Hollywood franchise.

5. “Race 3”

Releasing on: June 15

Starring: Salman Khan, Bobby Deol, Jacqueline Fernandez, Anil Kapoor

The third installment of the “Race” films, this one is led by Salman Khan while the previous two starred Saif Ali Khan in the leading role. Based on the trailer, this one has upped the ante on ridiculous stunts, car chases, and obviously cheesy dialogues.

6. “Sanju”

Releasing on: June 29

Starring: Ranbir Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, Dia Mirza, Vicky Kaushal

The much-awaited biopic of Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt is finally almost here. Kapoor plays the titular role to near perfection, donning Dutt’s avatar’s ranging from his early days of fame to his movie characters to his time in jail. The film will cover Dutt’s life, including his drug addiction, his several love affairs (Mirza plays his current wife Manyata Dutt), his friends from Bollywood (Jim Sarbh plays Salman Khan, Karishma Tanna plays Madhuri Dixit-Nene, Tabu cameos as herself), and his time in jail.
