6 Destinations You Should Not Travel to With Your Parents
Editor’s note: The writer is in his/her 30’s and still hasn’t traveled to some of these cities without his/her parents because I, I mean, because he/she is desi. Much of this list is hearsay and a good bit of Googling, and thus unwittingly perpetuates certain cultural myths about certain cities.
Family travel time is what happy childhood memories are made of, right? There were those trips to our nation’s capital or Disneyland. You would venture out with the entire extending fam to see our country’s monuments and history or, more realistically, you probably saw random U.S. cities because you and fam were obliged to make some random ass trip to random Uncle and Aunty’s house to attend a desi wedding.
Those travels were fun… for that age and time. And because you didn’t have a choice. But you’re grown now! So now what? Where should you go for coming to age travels?
Places You Should Never, Ever Travel to with Your Parents, Unless You Don’t Like Having Fun
There are several American cities you should never travel to with your parents, especially as an adult. We’ve created a quick list to help you in your adulting.
1. Las Vegas, Nevada
There’s a reason they say “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.” No doubt, Las Vegas isn’t nicknamed “Sin City” for nothing. In Las Vegas, you can have the best party experience you’ll never remember, due to how wasted you’ll probably be getting. You definitely wouldn’t want to bring your parents here only to be walking down the Vegas strip to be stopped by a man giving out baseball card type business cards for local escorts. There are endless places to eat, drink, dance, meet new people, and of course, gamble. Oh yeah, and don’t forget getting married in a drive-thru. It’s a trip you’re pretty much required to take at least once in your adult life.
2. Miami Beach, Florida
Miami Beach is a top spot for some fun in the sun, and even more fun after the sun sets. During the day, there are plenty of top notch restaurants and shopping plazas to explore. There are also great locations for outdoor activities, in and out of the water, such as rollerblading, biking, and surfing. If you must bring your parents, just put them to bed early because the nightlife in Miami Beach is the perfect atmosphere to let loose in paradise. You can visit a nightclub, attend a pool party, or just get drunk on the beach and pass out in the cool sand.
3. New Orleans, Louisiana
Now New Orleans is described as being a non-stop party, surely the biggest party being the Mardi Gras celebration. Earning your Mardi Gras beads may as well be a rite of passage in New Orleans. On top of that craziness, you must experience the taste of New Orleans dishes such as gumbo, beignets, and jambalaya. Dance the night away at local jazz pubs, meet interesting people with incredible stories, but don’t forget to soak in some of the history of the city while you’re there soaking in a Cocktail à la Louisiane.
4. Key West, Florida
Also in Florida are the Key West islands, about 90 miles north of Cuba. It’s a cruise ship stop with a lively nightlife that you’ll definitely want to return to. There are little shops and museums to explore, land and water sports to try out, including swimming with the dolphins. Get all that innocent fun out in the daytime because after dark is a different story. Nightclubs, yacht parties, the Sunset Pier, are just a few of the many fun things you can explore at night in Key West.
5. Los Angeles, California
You’re going to find some of the best parties in Los Angeles. From red carpet events, to insane pool parties, to casinos, to events with A-list celebrity appearances, you will not lack any excitement if you visit Los Angeles.
